Felix Doubront did his part to try and punch his ticket out of Boston

The 26-year-old was irate Sunday after the Red Sox decided to keep him in the bullpen despite trading away starter Jake Peavy the day before.

"First of all, I’m not a reliever," Doubront told Jason Mastrodonato of Mass Live. "They know that. They just, you know, it’s hard but I don’t know what they’re doing. I know they’re not doing the right thing for me. That’s what I know right now at this moment. I’m an employee just following the order but they know I’m not happy. I don’t know what they’re going to do in the future but I don’t want to be a reliever the whole year, that’s what I know."

Doubront started 27 games for the Red Sox last season, finishing with a 11-6 record to go with a 4.32 ERA, but was relegated to the bullpen during the postseason. He began the 2014 season in the rotation though his 5.19 ERA as a starter once again led him to his current path as a reliever.

"There's a clear role for him in the bullpen and sometimes performance guides where you're slotted," manager John Farrell said.

Doubront, who has 417 1/3 innings of MLB service,  is clearly unhappy with his current role and all but asked for a trade with his comments. It appears however, the Red Sox are more inclined to give young arms like Allen Webster, Brandon Workman and Alex Wilson an opportunity to pitch in the rotation.

"If something happens, it’s going to happen because it’s going to be the best for me," Doubront said. "I just want to be a starter and stay there. If I stay (with the Red Sox), they have to know I have to be a starter. If I go, the other team is going to give me this chance to be a starter.

The thing is, if the (Red Sox) say I have to prove myself, I already did man. It’s (messed) up. So if these guys say I have to pitch to prove whatever, no, they already know what I have. I showed them what I have, as a reliever and as a starter.

For me, they don’t see the numbers, they don’t care what I’ve done in the past. It’s hard to be happy like that with these guys.

Doubront acknowledged that if the Red Sox don't plan to use him as a starter, let him at least audition for the role with another team.

I just want to pitch. Give me the ball and I’ll pitch. I cant show to you what I got, because you already know. But let me show it to other teams and that’s what I want. And they know that.
