Dodgers' Beckett throws 1st career no-hitter vs. Phillies

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Dodgers' Josh Beckett pitched his first career no-hitter in a 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.

Beckett needed 54 pitches through his first three innings, and completed the game with a career-high 128 pitches. It's the 21st no-hitter in Dodgers franchise history.

In his final inning of work, the 34-year-old veteran got pinch-hitter Tony Gwynn Jr., who took the place of pitcher Jeff Manship, to pop out to Erisbel Arruebarrena at short.

Center fielder Ben Revere followed with a first-pitch groundout to first, but Beckett issued a two-out walk to shortstop Jimmy Rollins. Chase Utley worked Beckett to a full count, but was called out on strikes for the final out. Beckett's last pitch was a fastball clocked at 95 miles per hour, according to Brooks Baseball.

Beckett threw 80 of his pitches for strikes, striking out six and walking three.

The victims of Beckett's good day on the mound, Philadelphia has now been shut out five times in its last 10 games at home.

An opponent hasn't thrown a nine inning no-hitter in Philadelphia since 1969, according to the Phillies broadcast.

After making history, and throwing the game of his life, Beckett enjoyed a playoff win-style celebration in the clubhouse, captured by teammate Dee Gordon. Well done, sir.
