Giants' Matt Cain leaves after 3 innings with apparent hamstring injury

Gary Vasquez / USA TODAY Sports

This is not the result the San Francisco Giants wanted when they sent Matt Cain to the mound on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.

Cain left Wednesday's game after pitching just three innings, and appeared to grab his right hamstring after his final pitch. He was also the victim of a DJ LeMahieu comebacker earlier in the inning, which also could have been the cause of the injury.

The Giants are already without perennial MVP candidate Buster Posey due to a nagging back injury, and now the health of their Cy Young caliber starter appears to be in jeopardy.
