With the annual winter meetings concluded and few deals completed, player value has become slightly clearer. In some cases, uncertainty regarding a player's surrounding team (Chicago White Sox) or final landing spot (Edwin Encarnacion) leaves open the possibility for significant changes down the road.

Moderate changes aren't indicated in the trend section. Instead, I'm focusing on players whose perceived value has increased or decreased with enough impact to warrant attention. In some cases, it's a re-assessment of players who may have been ranked too low/high the first time around.

Tier 1

Rank PLAYER TEAM POSITION TREND
Mike Trout LAA OF1
Paul Goldschmidt ARI 1B1
Mookie Betts BOS OF2
Jose Altuve HOU 2B1
Clayton Kershaw LAD SP1
Nolan Arenado COL 3B1
Kris Bryant CHC 3B2/OF3
Anthony Rizzo CHC 1B2
Josh Donaldson TOR 3B3
Manny Machado BAL SS1/3B4
Max Scherzer WAS SP2
Corey Seager LAD SS2
Starling Marte PIT OF4
Carlos Correa HOU SS3
Bryce Harper WAS OF5
Trea Turner WAS 2B2/SS4/OF6
Miguel Cabrera DET 1B3
Madison Bumgarner SF SP3
Edwin Encarnacion CLE 1B4
Charlie Blackmon COL OF7

Only minor tweaks in the top 20. Encarnacion's status clouds his value slightly. If he lands back in Toronto or, somewhere like Colorado, he could leapfrog Cabrera to be a top-3 first baseman. ... With Danny Espinosa being shipped out of Washington, Turner will definitively gain SS eligibility. The Nationals are giving Turner every chance to succeed and a top-20 fantasy season is not a pipe dream.

Tier 2

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Chris Sale BOS SP4
Xander Bogaerts BOS SS5
Noah Syndergaard NYM SP5
Corey Kluber CLE SP6
Robinson Cano SEA 2B3
George Springer HOU OF8
Joey Votto CIN 1B5
Freddie Freeman ATL 1B6
Giancarlo Stanton MIA OF9
Francisco Lindor CLE SS6
Jake Arrieta CHC SP7
Kyle Seager SEA 3B5
Brian Dozier MIN 2B4
Carlos Gonzalez COL OF10
Christian Yelich MIA OF11
Jacob deGrom NYM SP8
Ryan Braun MIL OF12
Daniel Murphy WAS 1B7/2B5/3B6
Stephen Strasburg WAS SP9
Wil Myers SD 1B8

Even factoring in Sale's moving to a more hitter-friendly home ballpark, he will pitch in front of a superior defense and a more potent offense. As long as he stays healthy, he's a top pitching candidate. ... Myers drops because the outlook in San Diego is bleak. He has little certainty around him other than hope of Manny Margot and Hunter Renfroe having huge rookie campaigns.

Tier 3

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Jon Lester CHC SP10
Yoenis Cespedes NYM OF13
Nelson Cruz SEA OF14
Adrian Beltre TEX 3B7
Jonathan Villar MIL 2B6/SS7
J.D. Martinez DET OF15
David Price BOS SP11
Johnny Cueto SF SP12
Jose Abreu CWS 1B9
Dee Gordon MIA 2B7
Andrew McCutchen PIT OF16
Chris Davis BAL 1B10
Chris Archer TB SP13
Gregory Polanco PIT OF17
Justin Verlander DET SP14
Carlos Carrasco CLE SP15
Hanley Ramirez BOS 1B11
Trevor Story COL SS8
Jason Kipnis CLE 2B8
A.J. Pollock ARI OF18

Tier 3 stays the same. There remain concerns over whether McCutchen can return value, but being outside the top 50 was already a huge downgrade. ... Davis is a coin flip. He will hit a boatload of home runs, but he could again struggle to make contact. ... The biggest potential risers are Story and Pollock, who are both returning from injury-plagued seasons.

Tier 4

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Adam Jones BAL OF19
Billy Hamilton CIN OF20
Jose Bautista FA OF21
Yu Darvish TEX SP16
Ian Kinsler DET 2B9
Buster Posey SF C1
Evan Longoria TB 3B8
Todd Frazier CWS 1B12/3B9
Aroldis Chapman NYY RP1
DJ LeMahieu COL 2B10
Kenley Jansen LAD RP2
Rougned Odor TEX 2B11
Eric Hosmer KC 1B13
Troy Tulowitzki TOR SS9
Zack Greinke ARI SP17
Carlos Martinez STL SP18
Zach Britton BAL RP3
Masahiro Tanaka NYY SP19
Ian Desmond COL OF22
Matt Carpenter STL 1B14/2B12/3B10

Chapman is the top reliever in fantasy, even if the Yankees don't project to be an elite team. His Ks alone, and the lack of looming suspension, will give him a full season. Some may balk at drafting a closer this early, but it's where you'll have to reach. ... Desmond's bat in Colorado is even more intriguing than it was in Texas. ... Carpenter makes modest gains with the addition of OF Dexter Fowler to the top of St. Louis' batting order.

Tier 5

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Kyle Hendricks CHC SP20
Adam Eaton WAS OF21
Stephen Piscotty STL 1B15/OF22
Aaron Sanchez TOR SP21
Justin Upton DET OF23
Dustin Pedroia BOS 2B13
Matt Harvey NYM SP22
Albert Pujols LAA 1B16
Craig Kimbrel BOS RP4
Jackie Bradley Jr. BOS OF24
Mark Melancon SF RP5
Jose Ramirez CLE 3B11/OF25
Jonathan Lucroy TEX C2
Wade Davis CHC RP6
Roberto Osuna TOR RP7
Cole Hamels TEX SP23
Gary Sanchez NYY C3
Matt Kemp ATL OF26
Danny Salazar CLE SP24
Kyle Schwarber CHC OF27

Eaton will be a hot commodity with his new team. Hitting in front of the likes of Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy, and Trea Turner (among others) gives good cause for the excitement. ... Pujols drops mostly due to injury concerns following foot surgery which might keep him sidelined through the start of the season. ... Melancon is the best closer should you miss out on the top options.

Tier 6

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Jean Segura SEA 2B14/SS10
Khris Davis OAK OF28
Kenta Maeda LAD SP25
Mark Trumbo FA 1B17/OF29
Carlos Santana CLE 1B18
Rick Porcello BOS SP26
Marcell Ozuna MIA OF30
Jeurys Familia NYM RP8
Felix Hernandez SEA SP27
Kevin Gausman BAL SP28
Gerrit Cole PIT SP29
Edwin Diaz SEA RP9
Adrian Gonzalez LAD 1B19
Michael Brantley CLE OF31
Ken Giles HOU RP10
Alex Bregman HOU 3B12/SS11
Anthony Rendon WAS 3B13
Lorenzo Cain KC OF32
Seung Hwan Oh STL RP11
Julio Teheran ATL SP30

Teheran was electric for most of 2016. He has a better offense hitting the field and the Braves may add another bat which would enhance his value further. ... Segura could be fine with the move to Seattle, but his career year in Arizona followed two substantial disappointments. Proceed with caution.

Tier 7

RANK NAME TEAM POSITION TREND
Jose Quintana CWS SP31
Hunter Pence SF OF33
Marcus Stroman TOR SP32
Miguel Sano MIN 3B14/OF34
Michael Fulmer DET SP33
Elvis Andrus TEX SS12
Andrew Miller CLE RP12
Danny Duffy KC SP34
Andrew Benintendi BOS OF35
Brandon Belt SF 1B20
Addison Russell CHC SS13
Aledmys Diaz STL 2B15/SS14
Dellin Betances NYY RP13
Anthony DeSclafani CIN SP35
Mike Napoli FA 1B21
David Robertson CWS RP14
Jon Gray COL SP36
Odubel Herrera PHI OF36
Drew Pomeranz BOS SP37
Brad Miller TB 1B22/2B16/SS15/OF37

With an ongoing fire-sale potentially gutting the White Sox further, Quintana's appeal -- for reasons other than his own numbers -- is lessening. If he is on the move, he could rebound to a higher tier if he were to land in the right place. ... Betances sinks like a stone following Chapman's signing, but he doesn't fall off the list because of his high strikeout numbers and consistent usage.

Tier 8

Ranking Name Team Position Trend
Justin Turner LAD 1B23/3B15
Maikel Franco PHI 3B16
Jake Lamb ARI 3B17
Ben Zobrist CHC 2B17/OF38
David Dahl COL OF39
Eduardo Nunez SF 3B18/OF40
Brandon Crawford SF SS16
Willson Contreras CHC C4
Evan Gattis HOU C5
Kendrys Morales TOR 1B24/OF41
Joc Pederson LAD OF42
J.T. Realmuto MIA C6
Salvador Perez KC C7
Kole Calhoun LAA OF43
Matt Moore SF SP38
Rich Hill LAD SP39
Dansby Swanson ATL SS17
Jake Odorizzi TB SP40
Tanner Roark WAS SP41
Dexter Fowler STL OF44

Dahl is difficult to pin down. He could easily be the breakout bat of the year as his .315/.359/.859 slash line in 63 games suggests. If this is the case, he is listed entirely too low. Small sample size forces tempering of expectations. ... Fowler likely won't be as valuable on a worse offensive team unless St. Louis adds another bat. ... Hill re-signing in Los Angeles is great, but his injury history lowers his overall appeal.

Tier 9

Rank Name Team Position Trend
Yasmani Grandal LAD C8
Sonny Gray OAK SP42
Dallas Keuchel HOU SP43
Victor Martinez DET 1B25
Logan Forsythe LAD 2B18/3B19
Ryon Healy OAK 3B20/OF45
Nomar Mazara TEX OF46
Adam Duvall CIN OF47
John Lackey CHC SP44
Jay Bruce NYM OF48
Carlos Beltran HOU OF49
Jonathan Schoop BAL 2B19
Hisashi Iwakuma SEA SP45
Tony Watson PIT RP15
Curtis Granderson NYM OF50
Marco Estrada TOR SP46
Jeff Samardzija SF SP47
Adam Wainwright STL SP48
Drew Smyly TB SP49
Alex Colome TB RP16

Forsythe could lead off for Dodgers after being moved in late January. He's been an excellent source of production the last two seasons, and that won't change with a new and improved supporting cast. ... Healy and Mazara enter their sophomore seasons with a lot of potential, but small sample sizes to draw from. ... Their surges are more tied to the concerns around Duvall's difficulty making consistent contact and Bruce's continuing slide.

Tier 10

Rank Name Team Position Trend
Melky Cabrera CWS OF51
Starlin Castro NYY 2B20

Asdrubal Cabrera NYM SS18
Brett Gardner NYY OF53
Steven Matz NYM SP52
Russell Martin TOR C10
Greg Bird NYY 1B26
Carlos Rodon CWS SP53
Raisel Iglesias CIN SP54/RP16
Garrett Richards LAA SP55
Matt Shoemaker LAA SP56
Michael Conforto NYM OF54
Cody Allen CLE RP17
Aaron Nola PHI SP57
Yasiel Puig LAD OF55
Ender Inciarte ATL OF56
Blake Snell TB SP58

Taking a late round flyer on Inciarte -- a new addition to the list -- could pay huge dividends. He slashed .341/.396/.440 in the second half and the Braves are a theoretically improved team. ... Shoemaker and Richards are both injury risks, and the Angels' offense is still a mess, but if they get healthy they could be the steals of standard drafts.
