Kate Upton defends Twitter rant about 'flawed voting system'

Kate Upton doesn't have a problem with Rick Porcello - it's the Cy Young voting system she takes issue with.

The Boston Red Sox hurler was named the 2016 American League Cy Young winner, despite Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander garnering 18 first-place votes to Porcello's eight.

After the award was handed out, Upton, Verlander's fiancee, went off in an explicit Twitter rant, ripping voters who turned in their ballots early instead of waiting until the end of the season.

She responded to the backlash, saying she's glad her comments drew attention.

"My comments have nothing to do with Rick personally. They had to do with what I see as a flawed voting system," Upton told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. "I hope the attention my comments are generating motivates positive change in MLB, for instance, not allowing voters to send in their ballot a week before the season is finished."

Verlander, who lost out on the award, was left off two ballots altogether, which ultimately cost him as Porcello edged him in the final count 137 to 132.
