Report: Twins 'still engaged' in market for Castro

Cary Edmondson / USA TODAY Sports

With a notable absence behind the plate, the Minnesota Twins are one of a number of teams hoping to land free-agent catcher Jason Castro.

It was reported earlier Monday that Castro has received multiple three-year offers, and the Twins are "still engaged" in competition for the 29-year-old, sources told Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press.

The Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves, and Tampa Bay Rays are also rumored to have interest.

Castro is one of the top catchers available on the free-agent market, along with Matt Wieters. Wilson Ramos is also available, but won't be able to catch for the bulk of 2017 after undergoing knee surgery.

Twins catchers (Kurt Suzuki, Juan Centeno, John Ryan Murphy) ranked 18th in OPS and 25th in home runs last season. Castro hit .210/.307/.377 with 11 home runs, 16 doubles, and 123 strikeouts in 113 games.
