Report: Castro has multiple 3-year offers

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The market for free-agent catcher Jason Castro is strong.

The 29-year-old reportedly has multiple three-year offers and the team that offers the fourth year could gain the edge, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays are considered to be among the serious contenders for Castro, while the Los Angeles Angels have reportedly also checked in on him.

Castro is one of the top catching options along with Matt Wieters in what is a particularly underwhelming free-agent group. He's spent his entire six-year career with the Houston Astros, and hit .210/.307/.377 with 11 home runs, 16 doubles, and 123 strikeouts in 113 games last season.

While Castro is noted for having strong pitch-framing abilities, he doesn't have a great arm. He threw out just 14 of 59 (24 percent) potential base stealers a season ago and owns a 26 percent success rate for his career.
