Mariners' Franklin Gutierrez: Suffers eye injury, available if needed
Gutierrez has broken some blood vessels in his left eye but said he is available for Wednesday's game, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.
Analysis:
Divish said Gutierrez is available "if needed" Wednesday, so it sounds like he is day-to-day. He apparently broke the blood vessels while sneezing, which makes the injury all the more odd. Gutierrez typically only plays against lefties, whom he's abusing to the tune of a .287/.382/.525 slash line in 212 plate appearances this year. The Mariners aren't scheduled to face a lefty again until the final game of the season against Sean Manaea and the A's, so Gutierrez could be held out of the lineup until then.
