The Baltimore Orioles claimed outfielder Drew Stubbs off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

Stubbs, who was placed on release waivers earlier this week after he rejected a minor-league assignment, will be eligible for the Orioles' postseason roster as he was claimed ahead of the deadline.

The 31-year-old is expected to arrive in Baltimore on Friday and provides manager Buck Showalter with a right-handed bat capable of playing all three outfield positions.

"He gives us a good, solid, dependable defensive outfielder," general manager Dan Duquette told reporters. "He's got very good speed and he's shown versatility and good capability to play center and left.

"Also, a pretty good base-stealer. So, it gives us a little bit more depth. Since we lost Joey Rickard we've been looking for another outfielder. Particularly one that can play center field and the other outfield positions and play good defense."

Stubbs has split this season between the Atlanta Braves and Texas. In 39 games, he's hitting .259/.343/.414 with three home runs and 27 strikeouts.
