Giants' Gorkys Hernandez: Enters game for injured Pence

Hernandez -- who was called up Tuesday -- replaced Hunter Pence after he left with an injury in the sixth inning of Thursday's 4-0 win over the Dodgers.

Analysis:

While Hernandez didn't get a hit in his only plate appearance, he could see some playing time if Pence ends up being sidelined. The Giants didn't report the severity of Pence's injury during the game and they remained pretty mum about it after as well, describing it only as a hamstring injury. Considering Pence had missed a significant chunk of time this season after having surgery on his hamstring, this could be a more serious issue than is being reported. If that were the case then Hernandez would likely step into an everyday role, at least until rosters expand Sept. 1. The 28-year-old was slashing .302/.382/.421 with 20 steals at Triple-A Sacramento this season, so there could be some deep league intrigue.
