Tim Tebow to pursue MLB career
Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, who hasn't played a regular-season game since 2012, is still interested in playing professional sports, although it won't be on the gridiron.
According to his agents Jimmy Sexton and Nick Khan, Tebow is actively pursuing a career in professional baseball, and plans to work out for major-league clubs in late August, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Sexton has been working with CAA baseball agent Brodie Van Wagenen, who issued the following statement Tuesday via FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
This may sound like a publicity stunt, but nothing could be further from the truth. I have seen Tim’s workouts, and people inside and outside the industry – scouts, executives, players, and fans – will be impressed by his talent. As an agent, I have a genuine respect for how hard it is to succeed at the game of baseball and a true admiration for those who possess the talent to play it at the Major League level. Tim's tool set is real. His physicality is unique in professional baseball. His work ethic is unprecedented, and his passion for the game is infectious. He knows the challenges that lie ahead of him given his age and experience, but he is determined to achieve his goal of playing in the Major Leagues.
The soon-to-be 29-year-old Tebow, who last played baseball full time for Nease High School more than a decade ago, has been working out in Arizona and Los Angeles, honing his craft as a hitter and outfielder.
During his high school playing years, Tebow hit .494 as a junior, helping Nease reach the final four of the Florida state playoffs.
"Obviously we support Tim in his pursuit of a baseball career, as we have in all his ventures," said Sexton.
"Tim's athletic ability, his work ethic, his leadership and his competitiveness were evident in football and will show in baseball. Knowing Tim's passion and desire, we won't be surprised by anything he accomplishes."
According to Schefter, all 30 MLB teams will be invited to a workout held by Tebow at the end of the month.
Tebow, who currently works as a broadcaster for ESPN, will continue to fulfill his obligations with the company while he pursues baseball.
