Kansas City Royals starter Yordano Ventura was diagnosed with a right rib contusion after he was hit by a 109-mph comebacker off the bat of Adrian Beltre in the fifth inning Saturday against the Texas Rangers.
Ventura remained composed after he was struck by the ball and was able to make the out at first base to finish the inning before falling to the ground in pain.
The right-hander did not return for the sixth, and instead underwent X-rays that returned negative.
Ventura entered the night at 6-7 with a 4.97 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 18 starts.
