The Twins went 0-9 at home against Detroit in 2016; it was the first time since the franchise moved to Minnesota in 1961 that the team went winless at home versus any single opponent in a season (minimum 9 G). The Tigers took of three from the Twins in Detroit earlier this month.

Detroit's only run in its 8-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday came in the top of the first inning. The Tigers have scored first in nine of their games, which is tied for third in the AL. But they are just 4-5 in those contests.

Minnesota has given up one or fewer runs in five games this season (5-0), which is tied for the second-most games by any AL club. The Twins had just one such performance in April last season. However, they have allowed 17 runs over their last two contests (0-2).

Joe Mauer has more career at-bats against Justin Verlander (75) than versus any other pitcher. He is a career .333 hitter against the Tigers' righthander, with four home runs and 11 RBI; the four homers are tied for the second most hit off Verlander by any active player (Carlos Santana, 8).

MINNEAPOLIS -- An early-season series between the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins suddenly has a bit of intensity as the teams head to Sunday's finale after splitting the first two games.
Saturday's wild affair that saw one player hit in the face by a pitch, a benches-clearing skirmish and two players ejected ended up in a 5-4 win for Detroit, which snapped a four-game losing streak. Minnesota won Friday's game in comeback fashion after being swept in its previous series.

Feisty finale could await Tigers, Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (AP)  The Detroit Tigers have devised quite a system for getting production out of their emergency call-ups: get them to the ballpark as late as possible before throwing them into the lineup.
''Sometimes that's the best way to do it,'' manager Brad Ausmus said. ''Doesn't give you time to think about anything.''
