Pittsburgh lost, 5-4, to Houston at PNC Park yesterday, dropping two of three to the Astros, and finishing up its six-game homestand with a mark of 1-5. The Bucs are 17-15 (.531) in one-run affairs this season (10th best in MLB).

Milwaukee defeated Colorado, 7-1, on Wednesday at Miller Park, sweeping three from the Rockies, and winning its season-high tying fourth straight game overall. The Brewers are 12-5 in their last 17 home contests -- second best in MLB since July 25 (Cubs -- 15-3).

The Brewers have won five of nine meetings with the Pirates overall in 2016, including all three games at Miller Park. Dating to last year's All-Star break, Milwaukee has beaten Pittsburgh nine straight times at home.

Chad Kuhl allowed three runs (two earned) in 6.0 IP five days ago against Miami, posting his fourth straight quality start, but coming out on the losing end for the first time in seven MLB starts. Kuhl is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three career road outings.

Wily Peralta went 6.0 innings and allowed four runs (all earned) in Seattle last Saturday, taking the loss, and dropping to 1-2 with a 3.50 ERA in three outings since being recalled from the minors on August 8. Peralta is 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA in four career starts vs. the Bucs at Miller Park.

Ryan Braun went deep twice yesterday, giving him 24 bombs on the season, and five multi-homer games overall in 2016 -- tied for second most of any MLB player. Braun has gone deep 29 times in his career vs. Pittsburgh -- most of any active player since 2007.

MILWAUKEE (AP)  One big swing released a little frustration for Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer.
After an intentional walk loaded the bases for him with two outs in the sixth inning, Mercer hit his first career grand slam just over the wall in left-center to help the Pirates beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-3 Friday night.
