The Indians lost, 5-1, to the A's in Oakland yesterday, dropping their second straight game, and falling to 3-8 in the last 11 road games overall. Cleveland has scored exactly one run in each of its last three contests -- one game shy of tying a franchise-high (in 1911, 1917 and 1975).

Texas defeated Cincinnati, 6-5, at Great American Ball Park last night, snapping its three-game losing streak with the win. The Rangers are 28-8 (.778) in one-run affairs this year -- best in MLB.

Texas took two of three from the Indians in these clubs' first series of the year at Progressive Field (May 30-June 1) by a combined score of 20-10. Cleveland has won each of the last three series with the Rangers at Globe Life Stadium (since 2013), posting a 7-3 overall record in those matchups.

Josh Tomlin allowed six runs (all earned) in 4.1 IP five days ago against the Blue Jays, taking the loss, and dropping to 0-4 with a 10.02 ERA in four starts this month. Tomlin is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two career starts vs. Texas at Globe Life Park.

Yu Darvish hit his first career home run last night, also recording the third hit of his MLB career as well. The last Ranger pitcher to hit a home run was Bobby Witt who did so on June 30, 1997 vs. the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  Cole Hamels was masterful on the mound for the AL-best Texas Rangers, and Carlos Gomez provided a big blast in his debut with a fresh start.
Hamels allowed only two singles over eight innings for his 14th victory and Gomez hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat as the Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 9-0 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series matching division leaders.
