With their win yesterday, the Rangers are up 1-0 in a best-of-five postseason series for just the third time in franchise history (lost ALDS in 1996 vs. Yankees, 3-1 and won ALDS vs. Rays in 2010, 3-2). The Blue Jays are down 0-1 in a best-of-five postseason series for the first time in franchise history.

In Game 1, there were three home runs, all hit by players playing in their first career postseason game (Robinson Chirinos, Rougned Odor, Jose Bautista).  That is tied for the third-most home runs hit in a postseason game by players playing in their first career postseason game.

Cole Hamels is making his 14th career postseason start and his first since Game 3 of the 2011 NLDS against the Cardinals. Among active pitchers, Hamels is tied for the seventh-most career strikeouts in the postseason with 77 (also Madison Bumgarner) and he has struck out at least eight batters in each of his last three postseason starts.

Marcus Stroman will be making his first career postseason start and it will also be just his fifth start of the season. Among pitchers to start a postseason game, Stroman is tied for 10th all-time for having the fewest regular season starts in that season (also Ramon Martinez, Bos in 1999 and Yovani Gallardo, Mil in 2008).

In last night's game, Russell Martin went 1-for-4 with a double and a run in his first postseason game with the Blue Jays. Martin has now played for four different franchises in the postseason and he has gotten at least one hit with each team. He is one of two active players with a hit in the postseason with four different teams (also Carlos Beltran).

In his postseason debut, Rougned Odor went 1-for-2 with a home run and three runs. Odor is the eighth player all-time to have a home run and three-plus runs in his first career postseason game and is the first player to do this since Ryan Garko did in 2007 when he was with the Indians against the Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS.
