The Astros beat the D-backs, 4-1, yesterday at Minute Maid Park, winning their second straight game, and for the fifth time in the last six contests. Houston is 11-4 since the All-Star break -- best in the AL and tied with the Giants for second best in MLB overall (Phillies -- 12-3).

Texas beat San Francisco, 2-1, yesterday at Globe Life Park, taking the series, and winning for the fourth time in the last five games overall. The Rangers have eight victories when scoring two or fewer runs since May 4 -- tied with the Braves and Cubs for most of any team in the majors.

With a mark of 5-4 in these clubs' first nine meetings of 2015, the Rangers are one of just four teams with a winning record against the Astros this season (also Rays, White Sox and Indians). Texas and Houston have split their last 12 meetings at Globe Life Park, each team winning six times since the beginning of last season.

Lance McCullers went 7.0 innings and allowed just one run (earned) vs. the Angels last Wednesday, winning for the first time in his last four starts. McCullers has allowed one or fewer earned runs eight times since being called up on May 18 -- tied with Noah Syndergaard for most of any MLB rookie starter.

Colby Lewis allowed two runs (both earned) in 6.0 innings last Wednesday, improving to 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA in three starts since the All-Star break. Lewis is 6-0 with a 1.74 ERA in his last eight outings vs. the Astros (since beginning of 2011).

Evan Gattis went deep for the 17th time of the season yesterday, giving the Astros an MLB-high 148 homers on the season. Houston has seven different hitters with at least 10 home runs this season -- tied with the Dodgers for most in the majors.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  Shawn Tolleson doesn't mind pitching almost every day, and the Texas Rangers don't mind having him on the mound that often.
Pitching on Tuesday night for the sixth time in seven games, Tolleson got himself into and out of a ninth-inning jam to help Texas hold off the Houston Astros 4-3.
