The Pirates picked up their 11th series sweep of the season yesterday, the most in the majors (each series a minimum of two games long). This is the first time in franchise history the Pirates have attained 11 series sweeps before the end of July.

Jay Bruce hit a home run for the only run of the game in yesterday's win over the Cardinals. Bruce did the same thing earlier this month against the Marlins. He is the third player in Reds history with two such home runs in his career (also Gee Walker and Sean Casey).

CINCINNATI (AP)  Brandon Phillips didn't realize he had done something very rare.
Phillips hit a pair of three-run homers and drove in a career-high seven runs on Thursday night, powering the Reds to a 15-5 victory that kept the Pittsburgh Pirates winless in Cincinnati this season.
