The Mariners have won four of their last six games overall, however, they have dropped three of their last four at Safeco Field. Seattle won four of the six matchups between these clubs in 2014 and will be facing Detroit for the first time this season.

The Tigers have won two of their last three games after winning just twice in their previous seven contests. Detroit has lost seven consecutive games to AL West foes.

Alfredo Simon is 0-2 with an 11.05 ERA in his last three starts after going 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA in his previous four outings. Simon allowed 15 hits in his last outing on July 1 -- the most hits allowed by a Detroit pitcher in a single game since Scott Sanders allowed 16 to Texas back on April 14, 1998.

Hisashi Iwakuma will be making his first start since April 20 after being placed on the DL back on April 24. Iwakuma is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three career starts against Detroit.

Ian Kinsler is hitting .444 (8-for-18) with one double, one triple and five RBI over his last four games and has 17 home runs in his career against Seattle -- the second-most in his career against any opponent (20 vs. Angels). Kinsler is hitting .391 (9-for-23) with three homers in his career against Hisashi Iwakuma.

Nelson Cruz has homered in two of his last five games after homering just once in his previous 29 contests. However, he has gone hitless (0-for-10) in his last three at Safeco Field.

SEATTLE (AP)  Detroit manager Brad Ausmus doesn't think hitting is contagious. J.D. Martinez disagrees, and has significant proof to point to after Monday's win over the Seattle Mariners.
Martinez got three of the Tigers' 19 hits, as Detroit scored nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away for a 12-5 win over the Mariners.
