National League Game Summary - Atlanta at San Francisco

San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Belt's solo homer coupled with a six-run eighth inning gave the San Francisco Giants a 7-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.

Shelby Miller and Chris Heston squared off in a pitchers' duel, and the former blinked first, as Belt crushed his 1-2 offering over the wall in left-center to break a scoreless tie in the seventh.

"It shows how well he hit the ball," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Belt's opposite-field shot. "It says a lot about his power."

The homer wasted another outstanding performance from Miller (6-1), who has allowed two earned runs or less in all 10 of his starts this season. He only struck out one in the opener of this four-game series but did not walk a batter and allowed just five hits.

"Shelby did his part," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "You give up one run, you think you have a chance to win, and we did."

Heston (5-3) was slightly more impressive, scattering four hits and one walk over 7 1/3 terrific frames to earn the win.

The shutout was the fourth straight at home for the Giants, who tied a San Francisco-era record with 37 straight scoreless innings at home.

The first extra-base hit of the night came in the sixth inning off the bat of Heston, who legged out a double when his slicing line drive nicked the right- field line. After a single, Miller stranded Heston on third by retiring Joe Panik and Hunter Pence.

Miller was pinch-hit for in the eighth, and the Giants cashed in off Atlanta's bullpen in the bottom half.

They loaded the bases off Brandon Cunniff with a walk, an infield single and bunt base hit, and Panik and Pence delivered this time with a double and triple, respectively, to knock in two runs apiece.

Pence scored on a wild pitch, and consecutive doubles by Belt and Brandon Crawford capped the big inning.
