National League Game Summary - New York at Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Starling Marte belted a three-run homer, Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run shot, and the Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the New York Mets with a 9-1 win on Sunday.

A day after knocking around Matt Harvey, the Pirates forced Jon Niese (3-5) out in the fifth. Niese walked four in his short stint and allowed four runs on seven hits.

"We needed this weekend," said Pirates manager Clint Hurdle. "We played good team ball."

Francisco Cervelli went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Francisco Liriano (2-4) struck out 12 over six quality frames to earn his first home win of the season.

Liriano worked out of several jams, most notably in the second when he struck out three in a row with runners on second and third and no outs.

After giving up a run on Wilmer Flores' RBI single in the fifth, the left- hander fanned John Mayberry Jr. to leave the bases loaded, and the Pirates went ahead for good in the bottom half.

McCutchen took Niese deep to center with a runner on, and Cervelli, who scored the game's first run an inning earlier on Jordy Mercer's double, ended Niese's outing with a two-out single to score Jung Ho Kang.

"I went away from the game plan, and they made me pay for my mistakes," Niese admitted.

McCutchen was intentionally walked with first base open in the sixth, and Marte broke the game open by taking Erik Goeddel's first pitch into the left- field seats for a three-run homer.

Josh Harrison's sacrifice fly and Corey Hart's pinch-hit single to score Mercer in the seventh capped the onslaught.
