Liverpool is considering exercising the generous €20-million release clause written into Inaki Williams' contract.
The 21-year-old forward has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in Spanish football with Athletic Bilbao and, according to The Guardian's Ed Aarons, his progress has been tracked by Reds' scouts in recent weeks.
The Merseyside outfit could face competition from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, however, with both clubs reportedly keen on doing business in January before their yearlong transfer bans kick in at the end of the window.
Although often utilised as a striker for Spain's Under-21 side, Williams' success on domestic duty has come on the Basque club's wing. He caught the attention of many on the continent with this incredible strike in November:
Williams bagged the winner at Villarreal in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday and his side will now face Barcelona in the quarterfinals.
