Fabio Coentrao hopes for more playing time: Ancelotti hasn't shown trust in me

Fabio Coentrao, like any player that finds himself rooted to the bench more often than not, wants to be given more opportunities to shine with Real Madrid.

The Portuguese left-back, who has fallen well behind Marcelo in the pecking order over the last two seasons, has made just 10 appearances in all competitions this season, with only three of those being La Liga starts.

"I hope to get more playing time at Real Madrid and for the coach to trust in me," he was quoted as saying by AS after Portugal's 2-1 win over Serbia on Sunday. "That has not really happened until now."

Coentrao has been linked with a move to a couple of clubs given his situation at the Bernabeu, with Benfica, who he left for Madrid in a €30-million deal in 2011, among them.

"Everyone knows that Benfica is my home," he added. "I love Benfica and have a special affection for the club, but I still have four more years on my contract at Madrid."

Another intriguing name to have popped up is Manchester United, whom AS report are interested in acquiring the services of the 27-year-old. For his part, Coentrao didn't exactly shoot down rumours of a potential move.

"I have already shown an interest in playing there (at Manchester United)," Coentrao said. "It is one of the best clubs in the world, a club I admire a lot. It would be an honour to play there."
