Report: Miami to host El Clasico in July
The United States will be home to El Clasico this summer, as Real Madrid and Barcelona go head to head on July 29 in Miami, according to Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated.
The match, which will be part of the International Champions Cup (ICC) competition, is expected to be formally announced Friday.
Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Dolphins' new 65,000-seat venue, will host the event.
Wahl reports that Steve Ross - owner of the Dolphins and the ICC through his company, Relevant Sports - met with the presidents of both clubs in December and engaged in negotiations for several weeks before a deal was reached.
In February, Marca's Juan Ignacio Garcia-Ochoa published a similar report, saying the match could include pre-game and half-time concerts similar to the Super Bowl.
Barcelona and Real will meet for the final Clasico of the season at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 23.
The only other time the two football giants have clashed outside of Spain occurred in 1982 when Real beat Barca 1-0 in Venezuela.
