Zidane bemoans Real Madrid's growing injury list

Real Madrid's infirmary is getting a bit too crowded for manager Zinedine Zidane's liking.

Injuries to Marcelo and Luka Modric forced Zidane to make two substitutions in Saturday's 2-1 win over Malaga, potentially robbing two more starters from a squad already missing Gareth Bale, Pepe, James Rodriguez, and Dani Carvajal.

Marcelo limped off the pitch with an apparent hamstring issue in the first half, while Modric departed towards the end of the match with a suspected muscular problem.

Sergio Ramos' pair of goals allowed Los Blancos to maintain their lead at the top of the table, but Zidane still has plenty of concerns.

"We know what Sergio brings us at set pieces. He was phenomenal today with the two goals," said the Frenchman, according to ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan. "But I am a bit upset with the injuries. We have many games but in the end my mood is a bit screwed. We have a big game Wednesday.

"Luka has an issue, we hope it is not serious. We will see tomorrow with a scan."

Madrid faces a 2-1 deficit against Celta Vigo in the second leg of its Copa del Rey quarter-final Wednesday. Zidane's men then travel to Vigo for a second time in two weeks on Feb. 5.

The win over Malaga was the club's first in four games across all competitions, and the Bernabeu faithful were in no mood to tolerate wasted chances.

Supporters even whistled Cristiano Ronaldo, who shot straight at Malaga goalkeeper Carlos Kameni in a one-on-one situation before hitting the post.

"I am not criticising the fans, who pay for their tickets. But sometimes, over the season, with many games, many injuries, the players need some affection, and the coach too," added Zidane. "We must have patience."
