Team needs: 3 more moves Real Madrid should make in the transfer window

What do you get for a team that seems to have everything? As Real Madrid's quiet summer has proven, not much.

The possibility of an enormous splurge always exists at a club with such ungodly levels of wealth, but Zinedine Zidane's side as currently constructed is in need only of some frugal additions to help fill out a roster that has very few holes.

Here are three more moves Los Blancos should make this summer:

Sort out the Morata situation

Alvaro Morata is back at the Santiago Bernabeu, but for how long?

The blossoming Spaniard, who returns to Real Madrid after spending a hugely beneficial two-year spell at Juventus, is eager to prove his worth in the famous white kit. Conventional wisdom says he should be given the chance, as Morata provides immediate cover and competition for first-choice striker Karim Benzema.

And yet, rumours persist of an opulent transfer to the Premier League. Arsenal and Chelsea are both said to be interested, with €60 million a number that has come up on multiple occasions.

Given Benzema's age and increasingly concerning injury history, Morata clearly seems to be of more value as a squad member than a bargaining chip. Real Madrid isn't scrounging for funds, and selling him off to the highest bidder is only a viable option if a replacement is brought in.

Perhaps Robert Lewandowski or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are attainable, and that's the ultimate goal for notoriously lavish president Florentino Perez.

But, whatever the plan may be surrounding Morata, sorting out the situation quickly is of the utmost importance. Either provide assurances that the 23-year-old will be a valued piece this season, or make the necessary moves to bring in someone else and give them time to get integrated into the squad.

Invest in defensive youth

In Pepe, Sergio Ramos, and Raphael Varane, central defensive depth is not exactly an area in which Real Madrid is lacking. What may be of slight concern, however, is the age of the former pair. The Portuguese stopper, arguably the best player for his victorious national side at Euro 2016, is now 33, while the bearded Spaniard turned 30 earlier this year.

Varane is the obvious long-term replacement for whoever makes way first, but another suitable replacement is something for which the capital-based side should certainly be on the lookout.

A similar situation is playing out on the flanks. While Dani Carvajal and Danilo offer youth and depth on the right side, Marcelo, the ever-present afro-clad Brazilian, holds a monopoly on the left-back role. Fabio Coentrao, now back after a loan spell at Monaco, is still recovering from a serious thigh problem that forced him to miss Euro 2016. The versatile Nacho, meanwhile, is not a natural left-back, and has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

As with any potential discussion surrounding Real Madrid's transfer plans, some cover for Marcelo at left-back isn't a pressing need, but it would provide necessary depth for a club with perennial treble-winning aspirations.

Potential target: Jose Luis Gaya (Valencia), Marquinhos, (Paris Saint-Germain)

Don't do anything stupid

Under Florentino Perez, Real Madrid has garnered a reputation for being quick on the trigger, eager to make an enormous splash in the transfer market regardless if it's sensible in terms of on-field fit and performance.

Spend big now, ask questions later.

That's not to say it hasn't always worked out - Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are doing just fine, thanks - but heading into 2016-17, Los Blancos simply don't need very much in the way of roster reshuffling. Very few players on the planet would improve a squad that is coming off a Champions League crown, and just about the only one who seems available that could - Paul Pogba - looks set for a move to Manchester United.

As outlined above, some minor tweaks are necessary, as they are with even the greatest teams, but not doing anything asinine over the next month would provide the stability and continuity that many around the club have long clamoured for.
