Lavezzi: This is my last season with Paris Saint-Germain
Ezequiel Lavezzi is ready for a new challenge.
Lavezzi plans to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract next summer, as he confirmed on French television that this season will likely be his last with the Ligue 1 champions.
"I think it will be my last year in Paris," he told Telefoot, courtesy of ESPN FC. "But I'm relaxed and I want to finish in the best way possible."
Lavezzi joined PSG from Napoli in 2012 for a reported €30 million. He was one of the first marquee signings for the club in its initial stages of domestic success.
He has started his season on a good note, scoring in a 3-0 win over Monaco despite coming off the bench.
Initially a starter, Lavezzi is no longer guaranteed a spot in the lineup, and the arrival of Angel Di Maria only pushed him further down the pecking order.
The two are friends, however, and they room together when they're with the Argentina national team.
Lavezzi says the competition is "stimulating," rather than a reason to leave, and he wants to have a strong finish to his PSG career.
"I wanted to stay because I have a lot of confidence in the team this year," he said. "I think it will be harder for me to play this season.
"Some very big players have joined this year which will make the team a lot stronger."
