3 teams that could pounce after Icardi's rift with Inter

Just over a week after penning a new contract, the future isn't looking so bright for Mauro Icardi at Inter Milan.

The Italian side temporarily bandaged the gaping wound Icardi created when the 23-year-old went on the attack against Inter's ultra supporters in his new autobiography.

In a excerpt from the book, Icardi recalled a nasty encounter with a section of supporters in which a shirt he had given to a young fan was thrown back in his face by a prominent member of the Curva Nord.

It was an incident that obviously irked the Argentine, and inspired an incensed response as Icardi unwisely insinuated a violent response against the supporters.

Though the Serie A outfit has since disciplined Icardi without stripping away his captaincy, and while the player admits the story may have been written in "haste," the gifted forward doesn't appear likely to see out the rest of his five-year contract in Milan.

Here are three teams that could benefit from Icardi's fallout at Inter:

Arsenal

The situation at the San Siro has likely caught Arsenal's attention as the latest controversy surrounding the polarising forward could reignite the English side's reported interest in the player.

After failing to convince Inter to sell Icardi last summer, the north London side could step up efforts to bring him to the Emirates Stadium once again and possibly put together a plan to secure a move during the January transfer window.

There's no doubting that Alexis Sanchez has been terrific since being tasked with the primary attacking duties while Olivier Giroud struggles to regain fitness from a nagging injury, but the addition of Icardi has the potential to add a different dimension to the attack and possibly set the team up for an extended run in multiple competitions.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain could offer Icardi an escape route out of Milan as the capital city team struggles to cope and live up to lofty expectations during the post-Zlatan era.

While Edinson Cavani has been on rich form of late, few would be surprised if PSG turned its attention towards the young Argentine in an effort to capture an elusive Champions League trophy and help the team rediscover the form that saw it run away with the Ligue 1 title last season.

The addition of Icardi wouldn't necessarily spell the end for Cavani in Paris, as the Uruguayan would likely benefit from having some of the spotlight shifted away from him.

Manchester United

The timing may seem a bit peculiar, but a transfer to Manchester United could, in theory, eventually benefit Icardi and help him evolve into one of the world's top forwards.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic towing the load up front, Icardi's immediate impact as a primary figure would pale in comparison to Inter's reliance on him.

But, given Ibrahimovic's advanced age, his addition either this winter or next summer could align well with Marcus Rashford's development and eventually create a formidable partnership up front that could have the potential to wreak havoc on backlines for years to come.
