Report: Sergio Aguero nearing contract extension at Manchester City

Sergio Aguero could be nearing a contract extension at Manchester City.

The Argentinian is happy in the Northwest and wants to see his contract taken beyond the current agreement of 2019, according to Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News, and the club is unsurprisingly keen on tying the star down to a longer stay.

The new terms would also include a boost in salary, reportedly higher than the £240,000 a week current top earner Yaya Toure receives.

While City would prefer to keep Aguero on the books until he hangs up his boots, the lengthening of his deal is only expected to be a year or so. This is due to the striker's want to finish his playing days at Independiente, with whom he began his professional career.

Aguero not only offers City one of the world's most fearsome attackers - one who has bagged an incredible 124 goals in 188 outings for the outfit - but also one of the most marketable assets in the squad, undoubtedly helping the club boost its worldwide presence.

Aguero was kept out of the goals for the first time in five matches on Feb. 14 against Tottenham, and is expected to be called upon to try and breach the Dynamo Kyiv backline in Wednesday's Champions League Round of 16 ties.
