Report: Vardy on verge of signing long-term extension with Leicester City

Leicester City is doing its best to ensure that Jamie Vardy remains at the King Power Stadium for the foreseeable future. Or, at the very least, the Foxes are doing all they can to make sure they pocket a pretty penny if the electrifying striker jettisons for greener pastures.

Vardy is on the verge of signing a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the club, as Stuart James of the Guardian reports that the Englishman is set for a significant increase on his £40,000-a-week salary.

James explains:

While Vardy signed his existing deal only 16 months ago, at that point the 29-year-old had yet to kick a ball in the Premier League, let alone play for his country. Vardy has since won four England caps, after being called up by Roy Hodgson for the first time last May, and he is the Premier League's leader scorer this season, with 16 goals.

Vardy, whose rise from non-league footballer to England international has been nothing short of meteoric, has reportedly garnered interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool. However, James' report claims the angular attacker is content at the King Power Stadium.

Signed from Fleetwood Town for £1 million in the summer of 2012, Vardy set a new Premier League record earlier this season when he became the first player in the history of the English top flight to score in 11 consecutive matches.
