France U-21 defender Jordan Amavi leaves match with leg injury
Aston Villa summer signing Jordan Amavi left Thursday's Euro 2017 Under-21 qualification match against Northern Ireland in the 72nd minute with what appeared to be a right knee injury.
The 21-year-old left-back clattered with Northern Ireland's Jordan Stewart on the touchline, with the former Nice defender tumbling backward as his right leg swung in a noticeably unnatural manner.
Amavi was helped off the pitch with the assistance of two French coaches and was replaced by Nancy centre-back Clement Lenglet.
Without an official report from France's Under-21 team doctor, it's safe to assume based solely on the video footage that Amavi's absence will be long term, a huge blow to Remi Garde's Claret and Blue Army.
Amavi has appeared in 10 league matches for the Villains this season in defence and has been one of a few bright spots for the bottom-dwelling Premier League side since his reported €11-million move from the South Coast side.
