Report: Club doctor returns to Chelsea; Mourinho under investigation for language complaint

Dr. Eva Carneiro has not reported for matchday or training ground duties since a fall out with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho during the first game of the season.

Now, according to Jason Burt of the Telegraph, she has been requested to return to the club's training centre and could be back on the bench for Saturday's visit of Arsenal.

Clearly smarting from a poor 2-2 draw at home to Swansea City, Mourinho lashed out at his medical team after its treatment of Eden Hazard briefly left Chelsea with nine men after Thibaut Courtois had been sent off earlier.

"I wasn't happy with my medical staff because even if you are a medical doctor or secretary on the bench, you have to understand the game," he told the press postgame.

Mourinho was condemned for his comments by many in football, and the Gibraltarian has not been back to work since. Though first-team physio Jon Fearn has resumed duties at the club, he too was relieved of his matchday responsibilities.

Further news was broke by Ben Smith of the BBC on Friday morning confirming that the Football Association is investigating abusive or sexist language directed at Carneiro from Mourinho. The complaint came from a member of the public, and the FA is studying footage from the 2-2 draw.

Carneiro has taken advice from law firm Mishcon de Reya over the ensuing time, but is expected to report for training on Friday morning and could be involved in a Chelsea game for the first time since the incident 42 days ago. Fearn could also follow.

Chelsea has continued to refuse to comment on what they call an "internal staffing matter," but Mourinho has previously said the club doctor might be reinstated.
