After a disastrous fortnight for the London club on the back of two disappointing league results, the colour design is emblematic of the mood around Stamford Bridge: dark and dreary.
Chelsea last wore black during the 2013-14 season as a third alternate kit, and as an away kit for the 2011-12 campaign.

The club also announced the new squad numbers for recent signings Pedro and Baba Rahman. The ex-Barcelona attacker will sport the No. 17 kit while the young full-back Rahman, acquired from Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg, will wear the No. 6 jersey.
Chelsea's next match is Sunday when they visit the Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion, desperately seeking their first win of the season.
