Anthony Martial is now one of the most expensive teenagers in football history.

Manchester United completed the signing of the electrifying 19-year-old attacker on Tuesday, bringing the Frenchman to Old Trafford from AS Monaco for a reported fee of £36 million.

Martial put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the club in a deal that includes an option for a fifth season. In completing the expensive move, the Frenchman joins an exclusive group - one that features Manchester United very prominently.

The deal, which will see Martial become the Red Devils' third-most expensive signing of all-time - behind Angel Di Maria and Juan Mata - gives United some much-needed help up front following the departures of Robin van Persie, Radamel Falcao, and Adnan Januzaj this summer.

"I'm so excited to join United," says Martial, who scored 13 goals in 60 appearances with the Ligue 1 side. "I've always wanted to play in the Premier League and look forward to meeting my team-mates."

United manager Louis van Gaal, who has seen his team exhibit almost impressive levels of ineptitude in attack - scoring just three goals in four Premier League matches this season - outlined his excitement over the teenager's move to Old Trafford.

"Anthony is a talented young forward with great potential. I believe this is the club for him to continue his development," the Dutch bench boss said.

Martial has been given the No. 9 kit, inheriting it from the departed Falcao, and United supporters will surely be hoping the profligacy that characterized the Colombian's time with the club will not be inherited by Martial along with the shirt.
