James Milner: Manchester City's attacking core can cope without Sergio Aguero

The loss of Sergio Aguero is undoubtedly a massive blow for Manchester City, yet midfielder James Milner feels the squad's depth at the striker position can maintain the scoring pace set by the injured Argentine.

While it's not clear how long Aguero will be sidelined with a knee ligament injury, City continue to boast an impressive attacking core with the likes of Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic capable of finding the back of the net.

"Sergio has been absolutely outstanding, so he is going to be a massive miss for us. Hopefully he is back soon," Milner said, according to ESPNFC.

"But it is good timing that Edin is coming back. He is fantastic goalscorer and hopefully Stevan will be available for midweek as well, so we have got plenty of players.

"They are not easy shoes to fill, Sergio Aguero's, but with the ability the other players have, I'm sure they'll fill his shoes no problem."

Both Dzeko and Jovetic have suffered various injuries this season, with the former recently returning from a calf injury.

Meanwhile, Aguero is expected to undergo further tests on his knee to determine the severity of the injury and to provide a better idea of how long he'll need to recover. The early prognosis, however, doesn't look promising after he left the pitch in tears against Everton, and he's already been ruled out of City's Champions League match against Roma.

Manchester City, winners of their last six matches in all competitions, have a great chance to keep pace or even close the gap between them and frontrunners Chelsea, since they have a relatively easy fixture list during the busy holiday season.

Their next five Premier League opponents - Leicester City, Crystal Palace, West Brom, Burnley and Sunderland - currently sit in the bottom half of the table, with two of the teams in the drop-zone.
