England have another opportunity to capture a major trophy on home soil for the first time since 1966 after Wembley Stadium was selected to host the Euro 2020 final, UEFA president Michel Platini confirmed Friday.

The Three Lions, however, still face the task of qualifying and playing well enough to advance to their first final in a major tournament since that famous victory 48 years ago against West Germany. It will also be the stadium's second time hosting the tournament's final match after England was home to the competition in 1996.

Wembley will host the semifinal match of the tournament as well, and is one of 13 stadiums across Europe to host matches during the 60th anniversary of the tournament.

Germany was the only other team to bid for the "finals package," but their interest in being the outright hosts for the 2024 tournament saw their passion fade in the weeks leading up to Friday's announcement.

The Germans were still selected to host one quarterfinal match and three group stage games in Munich.

Saint Petersburg, Russia, Rome and Baku, Azerbaijan were also picked to host quarterfinal matches, as well as three group stage games.

Wales is the only British nation to miss out on being named a host as Scotland's Hampden Park was selected to host three group stage matches and a Round of 16 game.

The trans-continental style of the tournament means that all teams will have to qualify for the 2020 tournament. It also represents the possibility that one or more of the host cities could fail to qualify in the 24-team tournament.

Here are the remaining cities that will hosts games in 2020:

Host Games
Brussels, Belgium three group games, one round of 16 game
Copenhagen, Denmark three group games, one round of 16 game
Budapest, Hungary three group games, one round of 16 game
Amsterdam, Netherlands three group games, one round of 16 game
Dublin, Republic of Ireland three group games, one round of 16 game
Bucharest, Romania three group games, one round of 16 game
Bilbao, Spain three group games, one round of 16 game
