3 things to watch this weekend: Will the Reds rue missing out on Alli?

There's plenty of squabbling left in the Premier League, even if you think Chelsea has it in the bag.

Tottenham Hotspur shows Liverpool what it could've had in Dele Alli; Leicester City takes its miserable title tour to a relegation thriller at resurgent Swansea City; and Tom Cleverley returns to Old Trafford as Watford visits Manchester United.

Here are three things to watch in the Premier League this weekend:

Dele meets in Liverpool

It's an occasion that sounds rather like a poor sandwich shop just off Christopher Street in Liverpool and, just like the deli fillers on offer at this imaginary eatery, it could prove deadly for the locals.

Alli was very nearly a Liverpool player. That midfield three that has appeared turgid with Jordan Henderson and Emre Can passing sideways and dwelling in possession could've had the youngster that models his game on Steven Gerrard helping breathing life into the Reds.

But the former captain dozily missed a meeting meant to encourage Alli to move to Liverpool months before the move to Tottenham was brokered.

"We went up there and I think they knew that Steven Gerrard was my hero, so they said he was going to come down to meet me, but when I got there he was asleep apparently," said Alli in December.

Instead, Alli will visit Anfield with Spurs on Saturday, aged 20 and already being compared to Bayern Munich's space invader Thomas Muller. With Liverpool's narrow midfield and the potency of Kyle Walker down the right, Alli could be the recipient of a few inviting crosses above the likes of Ragnar Klavan and Dejan Lovren this weekend.

Swans afloat?

January's Manager of the Month, Paul Clement, has rapidly put his ideas across at Swansea, simultaneously tightening up the most accommodating backline in the league and playing Gylfi Sigurdsson in his correct position - and that's not, Bob Bradley, a false nine.

Sigurdsson has long been one of the most underrated Premier League players, pairing the ability to stroke forensic passes with pinpoint set-piece delivery. At 27, the Icelander should be competing in European competition, not scrapping for survival points with Leicester.

And Leicester, the fallen champion, needs a result at a revived Swansea. Claudio Ranieri has received the dreaded vote of confidence, and from the evidence of the midweek topping of Derby County his reserves are better than the seniors.

It can't get much worse, so it's time to give Demarai Gray a real opportunity in the league, bench one or both of Robert Huth and Wes Morgan, and perhaps pick players on merit in attack. On recent evidence, Jamie Vardy should be back at Stocksbridge Park Steels rather than playing in the Premier League week in, week out.

Cleverley with something to prove at Old Trafford

Watford overcame United at Vicarage Road in September, but the Hornets will find it harder to sting the Red Devils at Old Trafford, even with a player who is familiar with Old Trafford's surroundings.

Cleverley, who joined Watford on loan from Everton in January after making 10 Premier League appearances for the Toffees, is impressing in his second spell with the Hornets and the club's fixture at United on Saturday will provide the English midfielder with another chance to shine in a yellow shirt.

Playing alongside Etienne Capoue and behind M'Baye Niang, Cleverley looks better than ever, and it's already fair to say Watford is the best fit for the player in quite some time. With the 27-year-old on the pitch, the Hornets have won at Arsenal and at home to Burnley, and earned draws against Middlesbrough and AFC Bournemouth.

If Cleverley can outsmart United in his return to Old Trafford, it will only serve as further evidence that Watford is the club he should be representing.
