Report: Tottenham eyeing Everton's Barkley

Looking to provide further support for star striker Harry Kane, Tottenham is reportedly monitoring Everton's Ross Barkley.

Spurs have made an inquiry into the status of the 23-year-old England international who has reportedly yet to convince Toffees boss Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park, according to the Evening Standard's Tom Collomosse.

Despite an improved performance in Tuesday's victory over Arsenal, it's understood that Koeman isn't yet sold on the academy grad's virtues, prompting interest from Tottenham.

Spurs would need to table a bid of no less than £35 million for Barkley, according to Collomosse, whose contract with Everton expires at the end of next season.

Barkley has made 14 league appearances for the Toffees this campaign, pairing two goals and two assists while plying his trade predominantly in a central midfield position.

Looking to both hand Kane some support and add depth to a squad that manager Mauricio Pochettino has deemed thin, Tottenham will look to boost its squad during the January window. Whether a quality first-team player of Barkley's caliber could be lured to White Hart Lane during the festive period remains to be seen.

Pochettino added Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou in the summer, though both players typically play on the wings, and the Argentine manager is thought to be interested in a central player for his 4-2-3-1 system to provide depth alongside Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, and Heung-min Son.
