Ozil: Arsenal proved 'so-called experts' wrong in Chelsea conquest

Arsenal maestro Mesut Ozil hopes the doubters reevaluate their criticisms after Saturday's overwhelming performance against Chelsea.

Ozil scored one of three goals as the Gunners ravaged Chelsea's defence in the first 45 minutes at the Emirates. Before the interval, the Germany international made a gratuitous no-look pass that excited the crowd and proved just how confident the team was. He and his Arsenal teammates moved the ball with incredible ease in a performance that hearkened back to the days of Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.

It wasn't always this way. Arsenal opened the Premier League campaign with a chaotic 4-3 loss to Liverpool, and dropped points against Leicester City.

But it's since won all four of its Premier League contests, and Ozil hopes the critics take note.

"Many so-called experts had already written us off after the second matchday," the 27-year-old told Chris Wheatley from Goal. "But a Premier League season is long and we're currently improving from game to game.

"In the first half we played exactly the kind of football we want to play - quick combinations so that our opponents didn't even get the chance to tackle."

Arsenal will aim to consolidate the run of form against Basel on Wednesday in the Champions League. Arsene Wenger's side summoned a draw with Paris Saint-Germain to kick off the group stage two weeks ago.
