England's loss was Wales' gain, as the Dragons crushed an abject Russia side to leapfrog Roy Hodgson's lot and swipe top spot in the section. Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale dominated, each finding the net in the comprehensive triumph.

UEFA officially announced the sanctions against Croatia after the nation's fans disrupted last week's match against the Czech Republic by throwing flares and firecrackers on the pitch, including one that exploded right underneath a steward. Whether that actually deters the supporters, who have been branded as hooligans and "sports terrorists" by the Croatian camp, remains to be seen.

Amid all the problems in the streets of France that have plagued this tournament thus far, Irish supporters have been a beacon of happiness. That continued when a collection of them, clad in the country's unmistakable green kit, sang lullabies to a baby in Bordeaux.
