Report: Manchester United makes offer to retain Giggs in different role

Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs said in March that the club's youth academy is key to the Red Devils' future, calling it "part of the history" as speculation continued that Jose Mourinho would take Louis van Gaal's job in the summer.

With Mourinho reportedly set to be named Van Gaal's replacement after the latter was sacked on Monday, however, now it's Giggs' future that is being talked about at Old Trafford.

United made an offer to Giggs, who is on holiday and is considering the proposal, according to Simon Stone of BBC Sport. Just what type of offer the club made, however, is unknown. Miguel Delaney of ESPN FC reports it's a different role than his current one, citing sources, while Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News was told it's a "downgrade."

It's hard to find someone in football who embodies the one-club mentality quite like Giggs. His presence reassures that there are people who value their club over money, evidenced by the fact he's United most decorated player. He made 963 appearances for the Red Devils during a playing career that spanned 24 seasons before being appointed a player-coach in July 2013.

Giggs' future will be revealed when United appoints Mourinho, according to Daniel Taylor of the Guardian.
