Lazar Markovic: 'I didn't have a good relationship' with Brendan Rodgers
Anfield misfit Lazar Markovic has revealed that he didn't get on with former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Serbian winger was brought to the club by Rodgers for a £20-million fee in the summer of 2014, but struggled to win a place in the Reds' starting 11. Around a year later, Markovic was shipped out on loan to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.
"I didn't have a good relationship with the coach. That was a problem," Markovic told Portuguese newspaper A Bola via the Liverpool Echo.
"I played in many positions but didn't play in mine."
A poor start to the current campaign meant Rodgers was ousted from his role after eight league games. Since his exit, the Ulsterman has received criticism from Raheem Sterling's agent, and defender Mamadou Sakho said he felt like a "caged lion" under Rodgers' management.
In his place, ex-Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has taken over.
According to the Echo, Markovic's representatives hoped that the new Reds gaffer would recall their client and offer him the opportunity to show the form that won plaudits during spells at Partizan Belgrade and Benfica.
It looks unlikely, however, as the newspaper understands that Klopp is unable to cut his loan spell in Istanbul short due to stipulations in the contract.
Liverpool's new manager will oversee his second game in charge when Rubin Kazan visits in Thursday's Europa League action.
