Mata: I 'would be happy' to play with Ibrahimovic at United

Juan Mata says he would welcome Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford following reports that the Paris Saint-Germain forward could move to Manchester United this summer.

The Swede's contract in the French capital expires at the end of the current campaign, and United has emerged as a front-runner for his signature.

"I don't know what he is going to do, whether he is going to stay there or not. Maybe he will try a new chapter in his long career," Mata told Sky Sports.

"He is probably the best in Sweden's history for what he represents. He has played in so many countries and leagues and won trophies everywhere. That speaks about his quality as a player and his importance for PSG and in the national team where he is a captain."

Ibrahimovic's agent Mino Raiola has claimed his 34-year-old client has already made a decision on his future, and his destination is widely touted to be United, who has stolen ahead of AC Milan in pursuit of the striker. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger brushed off suggestions last week that his club is looking to bring in Ibrahimovic.

"He is a very good player and I like to play with very good players," Mata added. "Every player would be happy to play with him."

The Spanish midfielder admits United has had some "difficult moments" this term due to a style of play that was widely dubbed as unadventurous and dull. The Red Devils have overcome that criticism though, overcoming hated rival Manchester City 1-0 last Sunday to draw to within a point of the Champions League qualification places.

United returns after the international break to host Everton on April 3.
