Real Madrid quartet headlines UEFA.com Team of the Year 2016
Europe's football governing body, UEFA, released its user-voted Team of the Year on Thursday, and there's a heavy Real Madrid presence.
The team is composed of players from five of Europe's most elite clubs: Juventus, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.
Here's the list of the 11 players who truly shone in the Champions League over the last 12 months, with the number of times each footballer has made the cut:
GK: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus, 4)
DF: Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich, debut), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid, 6), Gerard Pique (Barcelona, 5), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus, debut)
MF: Luka Modric (Real Madrid, debut), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona, 6), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid, 2)
FW: Lionel Messi (Barcelona, 8), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid, debut), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 11)
