The team is composed of players from five of Europe's most elite clubs: Juventus, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.

Here's the list of the 11 players who truly shone in the Champions League over the last 12 months, with the number of times each footballer has made the cut:

GK: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus, 4)

DF: Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich, debut), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid, 6), Gerard Pique (Barcelona, 5), Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus, debut)

MF: Luka Modric (Real Madrid, debut), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona, 6), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid, 2)

FW: Lionel Messi (Barcelona, 8), Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid, debut), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid, 11)

The list is based on votes from both Twitter and UEFA's website, where a statistical analysis of each player can be found.
