Vernon Adams likely headed to CFL after Redskins take a pass

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Redskins will not sign undrafted free agent quarterback Vernon Adams after giving the Oregon standout a three-day tryout, a source told John Keim of ESPN.

Adams says he'll likely head to the CFL and sign with the BC Lions now that he's been passed on by the Redskins and Seattle Seahawks prior to that.

"I could be like a Warren Moon or Doug Flutie," Adams said of former CFL to NFL journeymen. "All I need is a chance … If they can stop looking at my height and give me a chance they'd get a teammate with a lot of energy and a great leader."

It could be a tough road back to the NFL for Adams who, most believe, does not possess adequate size for today's NFL game. Teams generally shy away from building an offense around a non-prototypical passer, but if he succeeds in the CFL, he could fit in as a highly competitive backup some day.
