Clubs interested in the services of Hakan Calhanoglu better be willing to pay a hefty price for the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

The Bundesliga side confirmed that several enquiries have been made regarding his availability after a season of impressive performances at Bayer Leverkusen that saw him find the back of the net 18 times in 63 matches.

"It is true that we had several enquiries, but we did not want to sell the player, which would weaken us," sporting director Rudi Voller revealed to Sport Bild.

CEO Michael Schade echoed similar sentiments regarding the 21-year-old, but accepts the team would find it difficult not to sell if the right offer was submitted.

"We want to keep Hakan, but there is an absolute limit," Schade said.

The report lists Barcelona and Atletico Madrid as clubs known to have asked about the Turkish international during the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Manchester United have also kept an eye on Calhanoglu and could make a move for him during the next transfer window, considering manager Louis van Gaal admitted he would like to add players in January.

Sport Bild estimates that teams will have to pay €40 million to secure Calhanoglu's services.
