Report: PSG strikes €35M accord with Wolfsburg to sign Draxler

Julian Draxler is heading to Paris.

Paris Saint-Germain is on the verge of signing the disgruntled Wolfsburg midfielder after reaching a €35-million agreement with the Bundesliga club, according to reliable RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi.

PSG had already agreed to terms with Draxler on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Draxler is now set to become Unai Emery's first signing of the January transfer window.

Before the news broke, the 23-year-old said he had been in talks with "a couple of clubs," the other presumably Arsenal or Liverpool. The two Premier League outfits had reportedly expressed interest in the player, but PSG apparently beat them to his signature.

His last appearance for Wolfsburg came Tuesday in a 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Draxler's arrival should also spell Jese's exit from the Parc des Princes this winter. Bouhafsi understands the Spaniard has agreed to join La Liga's Las Palmas on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Germany international will give Emery another dimension as PSG attempts to make up lost ground in Ligue 1. He can play both on the wing and in a central role behind the strikers.

The Parisians are five points behind leader Nice at the halfway point of the campaign.

It's the second time Draxler has pushed his way out of a club, raising questions about his overall attitude and professionalism. He trained by himself at Wolfsburg after making clear his desire to leave Die Wolfe as early as August.

Last year, he told Schalke the same thing, leading to a €36-million move to Volkswagen Arena.

Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaus warned clubs to steer clear of Draxler and blamed him for having a "weak character."

But Wolfsburg wouldn't be held hostage. It wanted to start the bidding for the Gladbeck native at €40 million, according to Bouhafsi, but ultimately reached a compromise with PSG that negated significant losses on a clearly unhappy player.

Juventus had come close to signing Draxler last summer, only for him to snub the perennial Serie A champion.

CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed Thursday the Bianconeri wouldn't make a second approach, adding, "If you refuse us once, well, Juventus just look elsewhere."

Draxler scored just eight goals in 45 appearances for Wolfsburg.
