What you need to know
Vonn goes for gold, Shiffrin sits out once again
Lindsey Vonn's Olympic career could soon come to an end as she goes for gold in the downhill skiing finals. Meanwhile, fellow American and giant slalom gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin announced her decision not to participate. It's the second skiing event Shiffrin has passed on since her gold-medal performance in the giant slalom.
Update: Vonn won bronze in what is likely her last appearance at the Olympics. With the accolade, Vonn, 33, becomes the oldest female alpine skier in Olympic history to win a medal.
U.S. faces Czech Republic in men's hockey quarterfinals
With the women's team looking to knock off Canada for gold, the men's journey continues in the quarterfinal against the Czech Republic. Despite being dismantled by the Olympic Athletes from Russia and called out by Ilya Kovalchuk, the U.S. fared much better on Monday, beating Slovakia 5-1 en route to the quarters.
Update: The U.S. lost 3-2 in a shootout and were eliminated from the men's hockey tournament.
American duos in great shape ahead of bobsled final
Two separate U.S. women's bobsled teams are in medal contention after brilliant runs. Elana Meyers Taylor and partner Lauren Gibbs posted the second-best time, only 0.07 seconds back of the German sled piloted by Mariama Jamanka. Meyers is looking for her third straight medal after winning silver in Sochi and bronze in Vancouver.
Meanwhile, American pilot Jamie Greubel Poser's sled finished Runs 1 and 2 in fourth place, only 0.02 behind the second German team.
Gerard makes return in big air qualifiers
Red Gerard, the youngest athlete to win a gold medal in snowboarding at the Olympics, is one of the best stories to come out of PyeongChang 2018. And the 17-year-old will now make his highly anticipated return - this time in the big air event.
Two Americans will join him, as Chris Corning and Kyle Mack look to reach the podium after failing to qualify for the finals in slopestyle. The three athletes will have their hands full against equally good competition, specifically from Canada, with Mark McMorris and Max Parrot - who finished second and third behind Gerard - also in the mix.
Update: All three Americans qualified for the big air final. Mack finished with the third-best score (88.75) in Heat 1 with Corning slotting directly behind him in fourth (88.00). Gerard placed sixth with a score of 85.00.
