The Canadian team of Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris was formed for the Olympic debut of mixed doubles curling less than two months ago. The pair then practiced together for less than an hour before the Olympic trials.
Now, the Canadians have claimed the first-ever gold medals awarded in the sport.
Lawes and Morris dominated the Swiss team of Jenny Perrett and Martin Rios en route to a 10-3 win Tuesday morning to etch their names in the history books.
The teams traded deuces over the first two ends, before Lawes and Morris exploded for four in the third.
Perrett and Rios showed signs of life in the sixth, but Canada's defense made it tough and the Swiss eventually conceded a steal of two before shaking hands seconds later.
