Report: Chiefs expected to cut Dwayne Bowe barring trade
The Kansas City Chiefs' wide receiver group was historically unproductive throughout the 2014 season and the team may now opt to part ways with its longest-tenured player at the position.
Barring a trade agreement with another club, Dwayne Bowe is expected to be released and become an unrestricted free agent, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
The two sides could conceivably pursue a restructured deal that keeps Bowe in Kansas City, but saving some money against the cap by parting ways appears to be the most likely scenario.
While Bowe remains a highly talented wide receiver, posting less than 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons will make it difficult to justify a salary that approaches his current mark.
Either way, the Chiefs offense is in desperate need of some improvement in the passing game and wholesale changes to the receiving corps were to be expected after a season in which the entire group was held out of the end zone.
